Odnoklassniki started to adopt Apache Cassandra in 2010 trying to solve scalability and availability problems. Odnoklassniki is currently developing its own version of Apache Cassandra. In this presentation we’ll share our experience taking Picture Voting System as an example. Currently Picture Voting System processes 20 billion votes on more than 2 billion pictures, storing 10T of data in Cassandra cluster. We’ll discuss internals of Cassandra workings, its drawbacks and strengths; describe genuine extensions we made to its codebase to make it work more stable and efficient.
